ForThePublic.ca is Canada's free, open-source civic transparency platform, launched in 2026. We aggregate government data — municipal budgets, housing, crime, permits, national statistics, and more — and present it in a clear, accessible interface for every Canadian. We're starting with Halifax, Nova Scotia, and expanding across the country.
To make government data as easy to access as checking the weather — so that every Canadian, journalist, researcher, and elected representative can engage with governance based on facts.
Why ForThePublic.ca?
Government data in Canada is scattered across hundreds of portals, PDFs, and press releases — hard to find, harder to compare, and rarely presented in one place. ForThePublic.ca exists to close that gap: an independent, public-interest project that aggregates verified government data into a single, clear page per municipality.
Started in Nova Scotia in 2026 and built entirely in the open, it is not affiliated with any government body or political organisation. Every figure is sourced and dated.

ForThePublic.ca is an independent citizen transparency platform. Data is aggregated from official Canadian government portals released under the Open Government Licence – Canada, from Statistics Canada, and from other publicly accessible verified sources (weather APIs, news headlines under fair dealing). We do not claim affiliation with any government body. Every numeric value is traceable to its original public source — please verify critical information at the source portal before acting on it.

Every data point is sourced from official government portals, public APIs, and open datasets. We link every number to its exact source — see the Canada dashboard and each municipality page for source lines.
If you find an error, please let us know. We'll correct it and note the change.
